Certified Birth Doula

Raven Carter

Peaceful greetings! My name is Raven Carter.

I am a wife, a mother, and an Integrative Full Spectrum Birthworker in the CLE area.

For nearly 12 years, I have supported families as a doula and birthworker. Whether at home, in a birth center, or in the hospital, I show up fully for the families who choose to work with me. My philosophy in birthwork is integration. There is a time for traditional practices and a time for medical assistance, and I believe both are intelligent, essential, and purposeful. My approach is rooted in holistic wellness, with the goal of supporting families on every level: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. This ensures their perinatal journey feels individualized and intentional. While my specialty is birth, my knowledge and experience allow me to walk alongside families from fertility through postpartum.

My journey into birthwork began in 2013 with the birth of a dear friend’s child. At the time, I didn’t even know what a doula was. I just saw a need and stepped in. I attended appointments and birthing classes, helped create a birth plan, discussed maternity leave and newborn care, and stood by her side the day her labor was induced. That experience catapulted me into birthwork. I spent the next four years in apprenticeship and self-study until one of my clients gifted me the opportunity to complete formal training. I became certified with DONA International and Hypnobirthing, which opened the door to community, further education, and many trainings covering the entire perinatal period.

Postpartum support has always been a part of my work. Those initial days and weeks are such a delicate and pivotal time. They lay the foundation for the transition into parenthood. I see postpartum care as a gentle tending, ensuring families feel nurtured, supported, and held as they adjust to life with their newborn.

Birthwork, to me, is more than a profession. It is a lifestyle. I carry this role with deep responsibility and grace. While I know a great deal, I’m always humble enough to admit that I don’t know it all. My heart is fully in this work, and I believe no training can truly teach someone how to serve. As I often tell my clients: “I didn’t choose the doula life. It chose me.” And I am so grateful it did.
